PFC LLC 105W design

Posted by: dreed on

Hi,

I am trying to use the design tool to create a 105W (21V @ 5A) design.   I require :

  • Low no-load Standby power (350mW)
  • Universal Input
  • PFC
  • Extreemly small size
  • I would like to use the Hiper LCS with the Hiper PFC

I am having dificulty getting the product selector to guide me to this solution with the low power level and I am not able to figure out how to just select the 2 parts to add to my design.

How would you go about creating this design? Would the download version provide me more design flexibility?

Thanks You

Hi dreed,

Thank you for your interest of using Power Integrations' part.

Regarding your question, you need to design two parts; PFC section which is using PFS3 to generate high bus voltage which you will use as an input for your second part design which is the LCS part.  You should set your PFS power design atleast 20% higher compared to your LCS design to compensate for losses so you can deliver your desired output power.  In your case you need to design LCS at 105W then PFS should be designed at least 126W.  You can design using PIExpert from below link.  You just need to register.  Below also is the link of the two controller needed for your design.  You can also check sample design reference for your guidelines.
