CAPZero CAP019DG to discharge amplifier caps?

Posted by: mtripoli on

This has probably been asked and answered; I couldn't find any references so I'll ask: Can the CAP019DG be used to discharge the power supply caps in a tube amplifier? These caps are much higher in capacitance than the the listed 5µF listed, typically on the order of 22µ-50µF range. They don't have to discharge in the 1 second as needed with X caps, if it was longer than that it would be okay. Voltages across the amp caps can be anywhere from 100-~700VDC. If these could be used it would be a great way to keep the "bleeder" resistor dissipation down and offer a faster "automatic" discharge of these caps found in every guitar amp.

Thanks.

Hi,

You can use CAP019DG, if discharge time is not a concern for you. Use 300K resistance in series with CAP019DG.

Discharge time will depend upon your X capacitance value.
