LNK 306 900 volt replacement

We have used your LNK 306 for years in our non isolated 6.7 volt 300 ma power supply for our Kwhr meter. We get an occasional failure where the corner of the chip blows off. We are assuming the line voltage gets a giant spike to cause this.
It looks to us that the 900 volt LNK3296G is a drop in replacement for the 700 volt LNK 306.
My question is it?
Yes, LNK3296G (LNK TN2) is the replacement of LNK 306 (LNK TN).
LNK3296G has a breakdown voltage of 900V so this one might withstand those voltage spikes.
