Can it possible

Posted by: vaxididaj on
For additional power (2.50+0.70+3.36)Watts, i am to use IC TOP242P in Control Section. Diodes P6KE200 & MUR160 in Clamp Section. In Secondary ,diodes that i am to use are MUR120. Is this possible to make SMPS design using above components only? how we select the PI device family according to our other designs? Regards Kusum sen

Hi,

On the basis of the output power you have indicated, the selection of the TOPSWitch is appropriate. The selection of the components in the clamp circuit depends on the VOR or the reflected primary voltage during the flyback interval.

It is difficult to comment on the selection of the other components without looking at your design. We wil need to look at your schematic and the transformer design in order to comment.

If you have not done so already, please download PI-Expert which is a free software that we provide to help with design of a power supply using our parts. PIExpert will help with the design of a suitable transformer and will also provide the required information to help you with selection of the balance components.

I will need to know the voltages and currents for each power supply output and input voltage range if you want specific answers. If you use PIXls software, you will be able to select the device you want to use and determine the components for your power supply. For example, I entered a 5 Volt, 6.56 Watt output with a 85VAC to 265 VAC input. I selected a TOP242P for the device. Using a EE19 transformer and changing the peak current limit to 0.8 (adding a resistor on the M pin to ground, a designed was achieved. In this case, the P6KE200 and MUR160 components will work for the clamp. The output rectifier would have to be a 3 amp, 40 volt diode. Z. Cochrane
