loops, bode plots and stability

Posted by: Txapas on
Hi, I´ve been designing power supplies (flyback) during the last 7 years and I´ve learn the job by myself. I think I´ve got a quite indepth knowledge of almost every topic related with power supplies... except everything involved with loop stability. I´ve got mountains of articles and books dealing with this topic but laplace transform and the rest of the mathematics that involves this topic it´s too much to me. I wonder if I´m the only one with this problem... BTW, I´ve always been somehow puzzled about the fact that PI hasn´t published any aplication note covering this issue. thanks

For our PWM products, our design software PI Expert will give you the circuit components and show you a gain phase plot. Our on/off control products regulate on a cycle by cycle basis and does not require loop compensation. Z. Cochrane

PI Expert gives a complete transformer design too...but PI have published lots of very very good aplication notes that allows to undestand the performance to change things. What if after the first prototype is built, the loop response doesn´t match with the predicted bode plots?... BTW, I´ve just came across "Puzzler 7" delaing with this topic but honestly, I still think that PI could do more in this field.
