PIExpert Support for more than 6 outputs

Posted by: jtsteenkamp on
Hello, We're designing the auxiliary power circuit for a grid tie inverter. We require 7 outputs, all floating and isolated from each other. So far I've managed to design for 6 outputs using PIExpert 7 and a TOP254 based flyback topology. Is there a reason why the program limits the number of secondaries to 6? Thank you, JT

in expert it will support onl 6 and in excel it supports only two. also, even if it support, as u r using isolated,it will have poooor regulation & poor efficiency.

PI Expert limits the number of outputs to 6 because few applications require that many outputs.

Using AN-16 (TOPSwitch Flyback Design Methodology available at: http://www.powerint.com/sites/default/files/product-docs/an16.pdf) you can calculate the necessary turns along with the output diode reverse voltage for the 7th output. You can use the software to help design the power suppply by creating a 6 output design but setting the total output power to that of your design. Then you can calculate the necessary information for the 7th output with the help of AN-16.

I hope this helps you move forward! Thanks!
