EMI Filter for INNOSWITCH INN3162C

Posted by: vivek_ponnani on

Hi,
I Vivek Ponnani am working on a CC/CV design.
The specifications are as follows:
Input: Universal
Output: 5V@ 1.5A
Device used INN3162C
I have completed the design using the Pi-Expert Software. I am presently working on the PCB Layout and am limited by space. The PCB dimensions i have is 30mm X 35mm X 15mm (Height).

My concern is:
Can i do away with the EMI Filter formed by Capacitors 6.8uF/400V, 1mH Inductor and 10uF/400V?
Is it advisable to replace the entire filter with one 15uF/400V Bulk Capacitor?
What shall be the consequences in the performance of the design?
Are there any work around external to the PCB for providing EMI Filter?

Looking forward to a quick and a positive reply.

Regards,
Vivek Ponnani

Hi Vivek,

We apologize for the delayed response.

Yes you can do away with the Pi filter formed by the two bulk input capacitors and replace it with one 15 uF input capacitor but you will have to check the effect on the EMI spectrum and accordingly use a suitable value of X-cap/Y-cap/CMC etc depending on the region of failures (if any) in the EMI spectrum.
