Low primary inductance LNK363

Posted by: matulla78 on

Hello,

I am using the LNK363 for a 6V / 500 mA power supply. I followed the steps in AN-40 but it always says "Low primary inductane. Excessive dI/dt. Peak drain current may exceed maximum rating. Design for higher output power

What can I do to increase the inductane? Attached is a picture.

Thanks

This warning usually means that you are using too large of a device for the required output power. If possible, select a smaller device. If it is the smallest device in the family, you need to increase the output power. This will increase the primary inductance. I used PIXls spreadsheet to design a 6V/500 mA universal input power supply using a LNK363. The recommended primary inductance was 1642 uH. This amount of inductance does not create a warning. Try starting a new spreadsheet, select the the LNK363 device, 85 to 265 VAC input range, 6 Volts and 500 mA. PIXls should specify 1642 uH primary inductance and not produce a warning. Z. Cochrane
