is it possible to get a noise voltage 0.001v form the smps output ?

Posted by: senthilp1 on

sir,
this is general qestion .
is it possible to get the noise voltage level 0.001v form the level 0.2v?
the power level at output is 1600w. load resistance is 6 ohms. we are using 110v power smps power supply. actually we are getting noise level is 0.2V. we want to reduce it to 0.001V. the load is inductive load as heater.
is it possible to reduce it?
is it possible by external filters?
is it possible by any other method?
please help me.

thanks

This power level is really outside my experience but in general 1 mV noise level is extremely low for a switching power supply. Most specs are in the 25 mV level for a 5 V output (somewhere around 0.5% to 1 % of output voltage - up to 20 MHz bandwidth. First see at what frequency the ripple is occurring - if it is line frequency (120 Hz) then it need to be addressed by the PSU. If it is high frequency then it is possible to add additional filtering on the output.
