Why is TinySwitch allowed to run so hot?

On page 11 of the TNY287 datasheet, it says that the package temperature should not be higher than 110degC.
What kind of lifetime is this temperature based upon?
When I worked at Panasonic, we used to ensure our SMPS FETs were always with case temperatures less than 85degC…so why is the TNYswitch allowed to run so hot?

Hi treez,
Maximum 110degC is just suggested temperature. The the customer specs is what usually followed in designing power supply. If the customer like Panasonic wants 85degC at the limit, the power supply engineer should meet that specs.
