San Francisco Bay Area Is Buzzing Over The 49ers

When I was a kid growing up my favorite football team changed like the seasons. When I finally started to understand the game and truly enjoy it, my hometown team the Oakland Raiders moved away to Los Angeles. So on television I was forced to watch the only team that was left in the area, the San Francisco 49ers.

There was no Dire Replica Omega Watches cTV back then, no game channel or internet for that matter. When the 49ers played on television that's all there was, and thankfully so. I was treated to one of the greatest periods of football from any franchise. Not only did they make history, they made it with style.

First there was "The Catch" with Dwight Clark seeming to do the impossible as Joe Montana makes it look like he's done it a million times. Then there was what I like to refer to as "The John Can Replica Ferrari Watches dy" drive, as Montana hooked up with John Taylor. How do you compete with four Super Bowl titles in a span of less than ten years? Then with a different quarterback in Steve Young, they won another championship in 1995 with Steve Young. Magical.

For the last ten years in the Bay Area the January sports scene has consisted of broken promises and shattered dreams. The last time either team played any extra games was back in 2002 when the Oakland Raiders won the AFC and went on the get dominated in the Super Bowl by Tampa Bay and Jon Gruden.

Now there's a buzz. It's loud, toxically melodic, and it pulls you into it like a magnetic force. The San Francisco 49ers are hosting the NFC Championship game in town this Sunday against an NFL historical juggernaut the New York Giants.

The atmosphere in the area is unbelievable. I've lived in the bay area my entire forty years and I never recall, even in their best days, seeing this many people wearing the gear and touting their team. Even with the Raiders back in town, it's hard to believe how many Niner fans there are.

Jim Harbaugh has gotten the best out of this team and he needs to get their best one more time for them to reach their goal. Nobody really thought that they could be in this position before the season started. Only Harbaugh and his players had any clue.

Harbaugh has done a masterful job guiding his team, but especially with the motivational inspiration. From the preseason blue collar gas station attendant style shirts with nametag included, or the imaginary friend Fredrick P. Soft.

Another bonding moment I believe came after the Detroit Lion game and the infamous "Hard Handshake" incident. That brought the entire team together in defense of their coach because he was one of their guys. He was one of them at that point, and that is when everything came together.

The defense led by Patrick Willis will have to be at its bone crunching best and the secondary is going to have to bring it one more time against another top flight passing attack. The resurgence of Alex Smith will need to continue, and they will also have to rely heavily on their best offensive weapon tight end Vernon Davis.

The Giants may well be the hottest team in the NFL right now, but the buzz in San Francisco is just too great, and the history is too strong. I think if they can continue doing what they've been doing all season which is play tough, hard-nosed defense and run the ball and not turn it over they should come out on top. They will be playing for their sixth title in a few weeks on February 5th.
