Posted by: vaxididaj on
Dear Sir, I am to design an SMPS Transformer in which Input supply - Universal (85 – 65VAC) DC Output - +5V / 0.05 Amp -5V / 0.14 Amp +24V / 0.05Amp (e. g.) Would you tell me, how I am to choose the PI device family, family, Package etc ? In this design, In the Control section IC is TOP242P . I would recommend that you use either the LinkSwitch-XT or the TinySwitch-III family for this multiple output design. The difference in cost between the two devices is minimal so if you are not going to make millions of these power supplies I'd suggest you choose the TinySwiitch-III family. It has more features, and should be a little more efficient design as compared to LinkSwitch-XT

Use PI Expert to enter your parameters and the software will suggest several design options. If you do not want to use triple insulated wire for the secondary windings you can use the EEL16 transformer with margin windings. If triple insulated wire is OK then I'd suggest you force the software to design with the EE13 core.
